My relationship with my mother hasn’t always been easy 😬 Even though we’re incredibly close now, it’s taken a lot of vulnerability and downright painful conversations to get there 🥵 There have been misunderstandings. There have been disagreements. There’s been fear and rage. And boy oh boy, do we know how to push each other‘s buttons! 🤬 But I wouldn’t trade our journey for anything. Healing with her is one of the things I’m most proud of, and most grateful for in my adult life 🥰 Not all of us have the luxury of healing with our mothers directly, but we all have the possibility to heal within ourselves around this relationship. THIS MAY IN SEATTLE, I’m joining together with two incredible women to facilitate a weekend of healing for mothers and daughters. Whatever your relationship with your mother may be, all are welcome. Here I am practicing the art of resting ✌🏼🛌 This is related to the art of boundary-setting, the art of self-care, the art of playfulness and the art of being enough 🥰 I don’t rest because I’ve run out of things to do. I don’t rest because I’ve “earned it.” I rest because I want to feel good—and when I feel good, I do good 💫 It is a privilege to rest. So I say ENJOY IT! Let me invite you to be lazy with me. Slow down. Do less. Nap. Putter. Stop being so dang put together and on top of things and efficient. The world does not need you to be stressed out and striving. It needs you to be relaxed and creative. You with me? 😴
Some part of me thinks I need to be perfect to be loved 💔 Some part of me thinks I need to be liked to be worthy 💔 I honor these parts for trying to protect me in my early life. I appreciate their efforts, even as I see that their “protection” is no longer useful 💔 Because let me be very clear: perfectionism and hustling to be liked have NEVER gotten me more love and acceptance—just more shame, burnout & isolation 💔So I look to the deeper parts of me, my inner wisdom. And I remember: I am lovable and worthy just as I am ❤️ Perfectly imperfect by design (as @karamo says). HUMAN. I am not always perfect (far from it in fact). I am not always liked (believe me). But I am learning to embrace myself with ALL my parts ❤️ And THIS—this messy, imperfect, complex, unbelievably beautiful journey of ME loving ME—is where true peace starts. It is the love of a lifetime ❤️
